For many translators, automatic translation is a scarecrow that will jeopardize translation quality and put them out of a job.

For some companies, automatic translation is a blessing insofar as it provides a means of tightening the translation purse strings.

What to make of it all?

In a globalised world, it is impossible for human translators to translate everything, especially online content. Sometimes, all that is required is to
get the gist of a text to decide whether a human translation is useful and/or necessary.

We also need to come to terms with the fact that automatic translation exists, that it will continue to grow and improve and that it does not represent
a threat. Instead, it provides a different way to translate – a quicker, cheaper, looser and more standardised way.

We need to understand that the strength of Google Translate, for instance, which is a database that is constantly being enhanced by aligning millions of
existing online translations, is also its weakness since not all of them will be correct and not all of them will be accurate.

How to make the right choice?

This is where, in my opinion, the issue lies.

To help you, we have summed up this point in five questions which you will find on our blog.

Avoid throwing your money away but do not jeopardise your message by choosing the wrong type of translation. At CG, we take great pride in being able to guide our customers so that you take the best decision.
