CG Traduction & Interprétation has joined a long line of 11,700 international UN Global Compact signatories from over 145 countries, reaffirming its citizen engagement and director Catherine Granell’s long-held values.
The United Nations Global Compact was launched in July 2000 at the initiative of the UN General Secretary of the time, Kofi Annan. It encourages governments, companies, and stakeholders from civil society to stand together and seek a joint solution to the challenges of globalisation. Today, CG Traduction & Interprétation is looking to take its work in favour of respect and protection of human rights and the environment to the next level, both in its strategy and everyday business practices, and by working with partners driven by the same concerns.
Paperless best practice
CG Traduction & Interprétation already applies a number of best practices that are relatively easy for any company to emulate. One such example is the paperless office. Some of its many benefits include equipment, paper, energy, space and time savings and faster access to information. In concrete terms, the paperless office involves sending files – encrypted when sensitive – via CG’s secure FTP server. CG is regularly called on for conferences by the French Ministry of Environment and other sustainable development organisations. In September alone, its translation and interpreting teams lent their expertise to the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR), the ECOCITY 2013 world summit on sustainable cities in Nantes and the Mexico City Pact.
The 10 Principles of the United Nations Global Compact
The signatories undertake to respect the ten universal principles, covering human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
Human Rights
Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
Principle 2: Businesses should make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labour
Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining
Principle 4: Businesses should uphold the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
Principle 5: Businesses should uphold the effective abolition of child labour; and
Principle 6: Businesses should uphold the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment
Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: Businesses should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
Principle 9: Businesses should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Anti-Corruption
Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
